dc.description.abstractIn the past decade, the availability and improvement of Google Translate (GT) for use in academic settings for various purposes have skyrocketed. Hence, the present study investigates EFL teachers’ and Master 2 students’ attitudes towards the use of Google Translate as a tool to write master’s dissertations in the Department of English at Mouloud Mammeri University of Tizi-Ouzou. The study’s objectives include determining EFL teachers’ and Master 2 students’ attitudes towards using Google Translate, identifying the factors that influence their attitudes, and uncovering the weaknesses and strengths of this translation tool in the context of writing master’s dissertations. To achieve these objectives, the theoretical framework provided by Davis (1989), namely, the Technology Acceptance Model, is relied upon. In addition, mixed-methods research is employed for data collection and analysis. In terms of data collection instruments, an online questionnaire is designed using Google forms and administered to Master 2 students, along with interviews conducted with EFL teachers or dissertation supervisors. In terms of data analysis, the quantitative data are analyzed using the Descriptive Statistical Method and the qualitative data are treated using Qualitative Content Analysis. The results reveal that Master 2 students and EFL teachers hold mixed attitudes towards incorporating Google Translate in writing master’s dissertations and demonstrate that perceived usefulness and ease of use are the factors that influence their attitudes. The findings also uncover that the study participants perceive different strengths and weaknesses regarding the use of GT to write master’s dissertations that vary among them.
