Abstract
This study deals with translating onomatopoeia in a One Piece manga series from English into Arabic, whereby we translated the 4th chapter “The Great Captain Morgan”. The corpus consists of nineteen pages taken from manga plus Application. Our approach is to translate the chapter then to analyze examples by adopting the process of borrowing, semantic translation and phonetic transcription. The results of the research show that the translator’s role extends to maintaining consistency in character names, adapting speech bubble direction for Arabic reading, and managing text space variations. Successful translation of specific One-piece manga pages serves as a practical illustration, contributing to ongoing narrative storytelling research. This work underscores the importance of cultural sensitivity, linguistic proficiency, and visual aesthetics in graphic texts. Considering our analysis, we have observed that translating onomatopoeia requires maintaining a meaningful and concise representation, the translation style should seamlessly match the original script. It is crucial to preserve certain sound effect terms to encourage the target audience engagement with the manga story
