Abstract

of the Algerian writer Rachid Boudjedra’s la Repudiation (1967) and the play of the Irish playwright John Millington Synge The Playboy of the Western World (1907). Our main concern in the following works is to show the protagonists’ psychological Revolts against their respective fathers are symbolic of the authors’ revolts against their respective societies’ established orders. Rachid’s and Christy’s desire for parricide is evocative of their authors’ rebellion against religious and political authorities. Even Rachid’s and Christy’s melancholic emotions are symbolic for the authors’ melancholia. For the fulfillment of our work, we borrow from Freud’s Complete Works some analytical concepts such as: Oedipus complex and Melancholia, to treat the first and the second chapter and the concept of Revolt from Julia Kristeva’s work The Sense and Non- Sense of Revolt to deal with the last chapter of our memoire.
