Abstract

The present study seeks to investigate one of the techniques used in teaching English as a foreign language. It aims at finding out wether or not storytelling is qn effective teaching technique used in the classroom to improve learners’ listening abilities. This research, in fact, is based on Mixed Method Research which combines both quantitative and qualitative methods. Therefore, two different research instruments are taken into account. First, a questionnaire addressed to fourth year students at “Les Canaris” Private Middle School in Draa Ben Khedda. Second, an interview has been conducted with four teachers from the same school. We have adopted Statistical Package for Social Sciences and Qualitative Content Analysis in order to analyze the obtained data. The conclusion to be drawn from this study is that storytelling help students in their learning process when it is used appropriately by their teachers, as it can be used in the classroom to facilitate learning by increasing motivation.
