Abstract

This study covers the difficulties in subtitling a movie from English to Arabic languages, whereby we translated our corpus consisting of the historical drama "Elizabeth" (1998 through adopting the comparative theory of Vinay and Darbelnet, and we tried to highlight the most important difficulties that the translator faces while translating, rather than using a literal translation approach, the research attempts to reveal various approaches and techniques translators use to overcome the difficulties this particular language combination. Furthermore; after the analysis, we concluded that the translator faces multiple difficulties in translating religious terms and historical terminology related to politics; and through a review of the Arabic subtitled version, the study reveals the subtle methods and translation procedures that translators should employ to guarantee accuracy, cultural authenticity, and an interesting visual experience for the Arabic-speaking audience
