Item The Role of TED Talks in Developing EFL Learners’ Critical Thinking Skills: The Case of Master’s Students at the Department of English at MMUTO(Université Mouloud Mammeri Tizi Ouzou, 2025) Abba Celina; Ameziane NarimaneThe present study analyses the role of TED Talks in developing EFL students critical thinking skills. This research seeks to fulfil two main objectives. The first aims to examine students’ opinions about the role of TED Talks videos on their critical thinking abilities. The second seeks to investigate the implementation of critical thinking standards in their shows. To achieve these goals, this research relies on Paul-Elder’s (2001) critical thinking framework and adopts a mixed-methods approach. Data were randomly collected from YouTube’s TED Talks channel and a questionnaire was distributed to 60 masters’ students. A descriptive statistical methods is used to analyze the data collected from the questionnaire , and a relational content analysis is used for the scrutiny of the videos . The findings have demonstrated that TED Talks integrate 78.75% of the critical thinking principles as revealed by the evaluation of the ten selected videos. The outcomes have also indicated that the students at the department of English MMUTO perceive TED Talks as a valuable tool for enhancing their critical thinking abilities. Overall, the results have suggested that TED Talks can be a useful pedagogical tool for improving and fostering critical thinking in EFL Students.
